User-Centered Design and Evaluation of Interface Enhancements to the Semantic MediaWiki (Frederik Pfisterer, Markus Nitsche)
From SWUIWiki
working on project Halo can we get guys from the street modelling ontologies and maintaining a knowledge base with a semantic wiki
design process: analysed user requirements paper prototypes designed again implemented evaluated with 6 non-comp science participants task was to build knowledge from wikipedia text
markus demonstrates system
looks exactly like wikipedia extension is a fact list at the bottom of each page all the facts found in a page
not a big incentive for users?
plus an ontology browser 3 cols - category tree -> instances -> properties plus keyword search to filter them can change direction between columns
still not a great incentive?
created a query interface, with auto-completion builds a query in tree form with objects found in with the text box, option dropdowns, etc.
good incentive
in edit mode, they added an overlay edit function to make it easier to edit/annotate
good incentive
think its important to consider rewards for user. more to come in coming talks
leassons learned: having a usability guy who didnt care how hard it would be to implement - that was good
